I like this definition of sin; what are your thoughts?

“Sin lies only in hurting others unnecessarily. All other ’sins’ are invented nonsense.” –Heinlein
I’ll argue that this applies to politics, as well.

Don’t Read This if You Aren’t Libertarian

Here’s the wording (no direct link available yet, but here’s the latest cut-and-paste source) from one of the April 15th Tea Party notifications. To further insult people with an I.Q. over 80, they threw a new Gingrich video on the page.  They ask:
Are you fed up with a Congress and a president who:
* vote for […]

Tony Blair's crucial contribution to the mess must never be forgotten

I would not want to get on the wrong side of this scribe when words don’t fail him: But this? This hole in the air encased in a suit of clunking verbal armour? This truck-load of clichéd grandiloquence in hopeless pursuit of anything that might count as the faintest apology for an idea? Words fail me. Thus does Matthew Parris muse upon the oratical inadequacies of Prime Minister Gordon Brown. If Brown is now the…

A great "pulp" writer remembered

I came across this fine tribute website to John D. MacDonald, the writer of many crime/mystery novels, most of which were set in the area around Florida, the Bahamas and Caribbean. If you have not come across his writings, which are a sort of mixture of Lee Child, with a twist of Raymond Chandler, a shot of Ian Fleming, a light coating of Eric Ambler and a tincture of Robert Parker, then you should correct…

Any common ground?

Talking of protests - see Perry's post immedately under this one - there are a number of protests going on in London to coincide with the pointless and expensive Group of 20 meeting of major industrialised and developing countries next week. There could be some serious clashes. It makes me wonder, given the Tea Party anti-bailout protests in the US at the moment - which are starting to get more coverage from the MSM -…

White House Blackmails General Motors’ CEO To Resign

In what can only be described as yet another one of those “crossing the Rubicon” moments that we’ve seen so many of since this economic crisis began, the CEO of General Motors has resigned in response to political pressure from the President of the United States:
The Obama administration asked Rick Wagoner, the chairman and CEO […]

Is Ron Paul Wasting His Time, And Ours ?

On several occasions over the past several months, we’ve seen Ron Paul in Congressional Committee hearings questioning men like Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke (see here, here, here, here, and here,), Obama economic adviser Paul Volcker, and, most recently, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner.
Without fail, those encounters take the form of Paul spending two-thirds or more […]

United Nations Opposes Freedom of Religion

Some group calling itself the United Nations Human Rights Council passed a resolution yesterday opposing what they see as the leading human rights issue of our time. You’re probably thinking, maybe they’re now addressing the situation in Darfur, or perhaps they’re talking about Communist China’s treatment of Tibetians. Perhaps there maybe a resolution about Cuba’s […]

Airborne laser ground test

I just picked this up form a Jane's newsletter: US announces successful tests of Airborne Laser The US Missile Defense Agency (MDA) successfully fired multiple long-duration blasts of the Northrop Grumman high-energy Airborne Laser (ABL) during ground tests, the company announced on 19 February. The tests for the Boeing 747-400F-based ballistic missile defence system lasted up to three seconds each and were concluded on 12 February This is good progress, but I am still waiting…
